The Bayelsa home of the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, Mr. Timi Alaibe has been attacked by unidentified persons suspected to be militants.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the attackers used dynamite to blow up the door to the house of the former NDDC boss in Opokuma village in Bayelsa State.
Sources confirmed to P.M.NEWS this afternoon that the attack took place yesterday evening and it caused substantial damage to the property.
The police guards at the house reportedly fled when the attackers arrived. Members of the Joint Task Force eventually repelled the attackers.
A source close to Alaibe told P.M.NEWS that “Alaibe is sure of the fact that the attack was not carried out by ex-militants involved with the Federal Government’s amnesty programme.â€
The source added that “the true picture of the attackers will be clear soon.â€
Alaibe is the coordinator of the Federal Government’s Amnesty programme for ex-militants in the Niger Delta.
The rehabilitation programme started last year after former militants laid down their arms to participate in it.
