Following incessant destruction of the fence and other measures adopted to stop pedestrians from crossing the rail line and ensure maximum utilisation of facilities provided for crossing to either side of the highway, all transport officials in Oshodi, Lagos State South West, Nigeria, have been summoned to a crucial meeting on how to put an end to the menace.

The meeting, according to Mr. Semiu Karaole, Special Adviser to the Commissioner for the Environment, disclosed to Lagos Bulletin that the meeting is to dialogue with transport operators around Oshodi, on how to maintain the beatification project in the area.

According to the Special Adviser, “we decided to call the meeting after we visited Oshodi and we saw how pedestrians damaged the fence in the course of crossing to board vehicles to their destinations and we said that the best way to put an end to this is to have a meeting with transport operators in Oshodi.

“The meeting was called because we heard that vehicle drivers are behind the demolition of the wire fence, although we are yet to establish that and we believe that the meeting would discourage further destruction of the beautiful work going on in the area.”

The meeting, Lagos Bulletin gathered, is to be held on Friday at the Task Force Office, Alausa, Ikeja and will be chaired by Superintendent Bayo Sulaimon, chairman of the outfit.

It was also gathered that despite the huge amount of money the state government spends on the beautification project, some unscrupulous commuter bus drivers, aided by some union leaders at Mosafejo Motor Park, Oshodi, are bent on destroying the wire fence used to barricade the area, meant to discourage pedestrians from crossing the highway and compel them to use the pedestrian bridge provided by the state government.
