Former military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, will storm Lagos  State, South West Nigeria, on 22 November 2010 to campaign, sources close to IBB  have disclosed.

Sources said that Babangida will spend a day in Lagos and will visit the State  Governor, Babatunde Fashola, the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and PDP stalwarts,  before moving to Ogun State.

In Ogun State, Babangida will meet with Governor Gbenga Daniel, the Alake of  Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and PDP stalwarts.

The director for Media and Publicity for IBB in the South West, Mr. Ebunola Martins,  was yet to confirm IBB’s visit, but sources said that IBB supporters are already  mobilising as preparations are at advanced stage.

Babangida needs the support of delegates from the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, in  the region during his party’s primaries to stand any chance of clinching the  presidential ticket.

He has not enjoyed much support in the region since his annulment of the June 12,  1993 election won by MKO Abiola.

A supporter of IBB told P.M.NEWS that IBB has remained popular among ordinary  Nigerians who see him as a strong and compassionate candidate the country needs.

He said: “Although some people disagree with IBB, especially with the way the 1993  election was annulled, for the common man, IBB has remained very popular because  when he was in power, there was no hunger like this.

“People were able to feed and live comfortably. IBB has never said that he is a  perfect man and we have all made some mistakes in life. But that does not mean that  we cannot redeem our mistakes and impact our society very positively.

“Those criticising IBB today are not also perfect people. In any capacity they have  served this country, they have made some mistakes. Does that mean that we should  throw them away? IBB I know has Nigerian people at heart.

“At his age, he is filled with wisdom and does not want to be president for fame or  for money. He wants to serve and give a new direction to Nigeria. That is why we  will come out in thousands to support him when he comes to Lagos.”

Babangida ruled Nigeria after he seized power from Muhammadu Buhari on 27 August1985  until his departure from office in 27 August 1993.
