Fuel scarcity has hit Plateau State following a three-day strike embarked by  Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union (PTDU) and filling station operators in the state.

The strike, which began on Wednesday followed the killing of a PTDU member,  Muhammadu Sa’idu, who was allegedly shot at close range by a soldier in Naraguta,  Jos, on Saturday night.

Alhaji Danladi Mohammed, the Deputy Chairman of PTDU, Plateau Chapter, told the News  Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Wednesday that the three-day strike was a mark of  honour to the late member.

“We shall also use the period to mourn him,’’ he said.

Mohammed claimed that the deceased met the soldiers at a check-point at the boundary  between Bauchi and Plateau during which there was an alleged slight disagreement.

“The soldiers trailed him to Naraguta in Jos, where they killed him.

“We are demanding N50 Million compensation from the Federal Government to be paid  within one week,” Mohammed said.

According to him, the national body of the union had taken up the issue with the  Federal Government.

“If we cannot resolve the matter amicably, we shall look for other avenues to  settle the matter,” he said.

NAN learnt that the soldiers, who were on duty at the boundary between Bauchi and  Plateau, had flagged down the late driver but he allegedly refused to stop.
