As a way of planning ahead, the Lagos State Sports Council through the State  Shooting Association, LSSA, has organised a 2-day talent-hunt for the sport  recently.

The 2-day event, tagged Hit the Target that took place at the Shooting range of the  Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, exposed participants mainly from the para-military  clubs to the rudiment of the sport.

Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Director of Sports of the council, said the programme was put  together to prepare young athletes for the sport, as the state is set to host rest  of the country in the 2012 National Sports Festival.

“We have to start preparation for 2012 National Sports Festival now. Although,  shooting won’t be part of the Garden City Games, it is very important for us to  start preparing for the 2012 edition of the festival,” he said while disclosing that  the sport will not feature in next year’s Sports Festival holding in Rivers State.

Secretary of the state association, Stella Fawole, revealed that the programme,  which involved demonstrative competitions in different categories in the sport was  meant for voluntary organisations and clubs.

Some of the organisations that took part in the talent-hunt included the Red Cross,  the Boys/Girls Brigade, Man’O’War and Sherif Guard.

At the end of  the programme, Certificate of Participation was given to all the  participants for the Rifle and Pistol demonstration.
