The Rivers State Police Command has restated its determination to protect lives and property during the three day warning strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The commands spokesman, Mr. Akin Fakorede told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that though it was not anticipating any violence during the strike, it would be on alert and be prepared to deal with any breakdown of law and order.
He said the command had strengthened its patrol systems and intelligence basis to ensure that hoodlums do not capitalize on the strike to cause mayhem.
“The Rivers State Command is well prepared for the challenges  that will arise from the planned NLC strike.
“We do not expect the strike to degenerate into any act of lawlessness but we are prepared with adequate strategies to respond should there be any uprising, upheaval, any protest, any untoward action that will be a fall out of the strike.
”We have strengthened our patrol systems, we have strengthened our intelligence basis, we have placed the anti-riot police on full alert and we have made provisions to protect all key points, vulnerable points and sensitive government installations,” he said.
Fakorede said the command’s 24 hour patrols were on and its emergency lines opened for the public and would remain alert for any emergency that might arise during the strike.
He urged the public to report to the police, suspicious persons or movements that could lead to breakdown of law and order or cause crime in their areas.
