Muslim groups have appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to shelve its proposed three-day warning strike scheduled to begin on Nov. 10.
In separate statements issued in Abuja on Sunday, the groups, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA) and the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA), called on the NLC to reconsider its decision.
NLC has planned a three-day warning strike from Nov. 10 to Nov. 12, to press home its demand for the payment of the approved N18,000 minimum wage for workers.
It would be recalled that the National Economic Council (NEC) on Nov. 4 endorsed N18,000 as the new minimum wages for civil servants.
President Goodluck Jonathan, then acting president, announced the new minimum wage on May 1.
NEC has set up a sub-committee made up of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Babatunde Fashola of Lagos, Sullivan Chime of Enugu, Gabriel Suswan of Benue and Sule Lamido of Jigawa to fine tune some technicalities in its report on the new wage within two weeks.
