Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC of Ibadan, Joseph Ladipo a.k.a Jossy Lad is happy that his team won their first game of the 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League season.
Jossy Lad says 3SC’s 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars of Akure in the league opener at home yesterday is a sign of good things to come for the Oluyole Warriors.
Jossy Lad, who admitted that the Akure warlords gave them a scare, said the 1998Â champions were lucky to have earned the maximum points.
“Obviously, it is a sign of good things to come. It was a difficult match, Sunshine are a good team. I think the luckier side won the match.â€
Lad, who explained that the inconsistencies that trailed the start of the league affected his side, promised that they will get better as the league progresses.
“The uncertainty with the league kickoff date was visible in the way we played our opponents. I know all the teams in the league will suffer the same fate, but I know things will get better as we move ahead.
“The League has started, every team will work harder and with that the league will be better,†he said.
The game was first thought to have ended 1-1 but 3SC’s Gbolahan Salami wrecked his former team by converting a late minute penalty inside two minutes of added time to hand the home team the maximum points. Akombo Ukeyima had put Sunshine Stars in front on six minutes before Salami scored the first of his double on 46 minutes before hitting the winning goal which gave 3SC the day.
