2011 ELECTION: Jega Pledges Support To Debate Group

The prospect of electing credible and intelligent candidates at the forthcoming 2011 general elections brightened this afternoon in Abuja as the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, has pledged to collaborate with the Nigeria Election Debate Group in conducting debates among the contenders for the office of the President.

The INEC Chairman, Mr. Attahiru Jega made this known during a courtesy visit by the debate group led by Mr. Taiwo Alimi, who was formerly the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON.

The INEC boss praised the effort of the group towards presenting a non partisan platform for political office contenders to ventilate their plans and programmes so as to provide a better opportunity to the electorate to make wise and informed decisions about who amongst the contenders to cast their votes for.

Jega further stated that there is need in the country for an impartial platform which can create a level playing ground for politicians to market themselves and add value in Nigeria’s democratic process. He supported the plans by the debate group.
