Activities were this morning paralysed nationwide at the offices of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, as the workers began a prayer session in protest against the Federal Government’s plan to privatise the organisation.
At the Alausa, Ikeja zonal office of PHCN, the gates were shut against customers who went there to transact business.
The PHCN workers gathered outside, holding an inter-religious prayer session involving Christians, Muslims and traditionalists to avert the impending privatisation.
In a memo from the National Union of Electricity Employees signed by its General Secretary, Joe Ajaero tiled Call for Fasting and Prayer, the union called on all members to attend a prayer session from 10 O’clock this morning.
Chairman of the union in Ikeja zone, Mr. Kola Adeliyi said they are waging war against the privatisation plan of the Federal Government because of their insincerity.
Mr. Johnson O. Adetona was at the prayer to represent Ikeja District of PHCN. At the time of going to the press, the Islamic session of the spiritual exercise was still in progress. An Alhaji, Isola Ogunmola, led the PHCN staff in prayer.
