The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria has lashed out angrily at the House of Representatives for making itself an enforcement arm of the PDP.
The party says that the penchant to reduce the house to the hatchet arm of the PDP will not only devalue the already tainted worth of the house but also ignite unimaginable crises that would consume the present democracy if care is not taken.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party said it was reacting to the resolution the house passed on the dissolution of the Ekiti local government councils and its threat to order the Ministry of Finance to withhold allocations to the state local councils.
The party says that a situation where the house seeks to subject the entire country to the political interests of the PDP will only worsen the crisis of governance, which has seen to the near collapse of the country’s democracy under PDP’s watch.
“In making this release, we are assuming that the House of Representatives and its puerile leadership is unaware of the rank illegality in the empanelling of the so-called electoral body that brought the dissolves councils into being. We are operating under the assumption that the House chose to be blind to the improper constitution of the so-called Ekiti State Electoral Commission. We are assuming the House never got to know the strings of sharp practices that birthed the electoral conduct and the shambolic election that brought these sacked local government officials to power.
“We are also assuming that the House of Representatives under a leadership that sees itself as the enforcer of the illegalities of the PDP never knew that Governor Alao Akala, after assuming office as governor of Oyo State, immediately dissolved the local council officials that were elected under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja and most of whom were not PDP. What we do not understand is why they have discovered their potency just because PDP members fell victim to the same method they have been using in other states,†the party said.
According to the statement, Lagos ACN is sorely disappointed at the recent resolution of the house of representatives as it only proves that they are there for their famed personal interests and the interests of the PDP. Even as they know that their resolution is steeped in illegality and cannot stand the test of time, we want to warn this house that they may provoke widespread discontent if they don’t curtail its readiness to pander to the narrow and selfish political interests of the PDP.
“We want to let the House of Representatives know that they were not elected to satisfy their selfish interests and those of the PDP but to work for the entire country. Even as the country has suffered the low worth of this House of Representatives, we believe that stealing partisan considerations into their resolutions would exacerbate the crisis of governance facing Nigeria presently, under PDP’s watch.
“While we call on Nigerians to ignore this House and their cheap partisan resolutions, we urge Governor Kayode Fayemi to remain firm and unshaken in his resolve to recover Ekiti from the wasteland an impostor government subjected it to for three and half years. We urge him to remain unfazed by the selfish resolution of the House of Representatives which sees itself as an enforcement arm of the PDP.â€
