Socialite Faces Drug Charges

A Lagos socialite, Kayode Faluade, alleged to have been dealing in cocaine, has been re-arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The accused was re-arraigned before Justice Olatoregun Isola, as the former judge hearing the case has been transferred out of Lagos.

In an amended criminal charge number FHC/L/93c/09, filed before the court by NDLEA’s prosecuting counsel, Y. Mishelia, it was alleged that Kayode Faluade, on 16 March, 2007, between Lagos and Ota, without lawful authority, conspired with one Idowu, Kenneth Chukwuka and Augustine Okafor now at large, to deal in 1,650 kilogramms of cocaine.

The offence, allegedly committed by the accused is contrary to and punishable under Section 14 (b) of the NDLEA Act Cap 30 of the Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who must swear to an affidavit of means.

Justice Olatoregun has adjourned till 12 January, 2011, when the trial of the accused person will commence.
