Estate Agent Charged With 419

An estate agent, Benjamin Adegoke, 71, has been charged with fraud and stealing at the Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, Nigeria.

According to the police prosecutor, the accused obtained the sum of N150,000 from the complainant, Kingsley Meedueke, under the pretence of renting him a shop which he knew to be false.

The police alleged further that the accused stole N150,000, belonging to Kingsley Medueke. The offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 419 and 390(a), Cap.32 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the trial magistrate, Mrs. B. F. Williams, admitted him on bail in the sum of N30,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She directed that the sureties must produce evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government.

The case has been adjourned till 5 November, 2010.
