The Daystar Christian Centre has commenced rehabilitation of Ikosi Road and the drainage channel in Oregun area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, as part of its Community Development Project.
A member of the church, who spoke with Lagos Bulletin said the rehabilitation work was not the first development project the church would embark upon and not because the church situated along the road, but as part of what it can give back to the community that hosted it.
The member, who craved anonymity, said the job of road maintenance and rehabilitation should not be left to government alone and that it is on such premise that the church decided to take up the responsibility of repairing the bad portions of the road and collapsed drainage channels.
A cab driver, who identified himself simply as Tayo, commended the church for coming to taking on the repair of the road which he said was gradually becoming a death trap to drivers and other road users that are not familiar with the area.
He called on other religious organisations to emulate Daystar Christian Assembly on road rehabilitation, saying such gesturecould be used to win more hearts for Christ.
“I really appreciate what the Daystar Church is doing. This will go a long way in saving so many lives,†he remarked, noting, however that if he had been a  Christian, he would have loved to worship in the church.
The road, it was gathered, was gradually becoming impassable, while the drainage channels had collapsed for a very long time.
