PDP Sweeps Kwara Council Polls

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has swept the local government elections conducted in Kwara State last weekend, winning all the 15 council areas the state.

The result from one council area, Offa, was cancelled due to the outbreak of violence that marred the polls.

Announcing the result on Sunday, the Chairman of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), Alhaji Bashir Oni, said the PDP also won 178 of the councillorship seats across the state, while the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) won two.

Twelve seats from Offa were yet to be determined, just as one seat from Pada Ward I in Pategi council area, where voting took place in only one of the 10 polling units due to the outbreak of violence.
