Tecno Telecom Limited, the manufacturer of Tecno mobile Phone, has raised an alarm over the influx of fake brands of the phone into the Nigerian market.
According to a letter titled Re;Tecno Copy/Counterfeit Phone, signed by the Regional Manager, Nicholas Qin and sent to the Phone Dealers Association, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, through its counsel, Barrister Justice Uhuegbu., the China-based manufacturer alleged that it has come to the notice of the company that some people within the Ikeja Computer Village are engaging in the act of pirating the Tecno brand of phone.
While seeking the assistance of the telephone dealers within the Village to help put an end to it, Qin said, “we therefore write to you as the legal adviser of the GSM and Phones Dealers Association to partner with us in order to put an end to this act being perpetrated by some members of the association’
To this end, the association recently embarked on an enlightenment campaign against fake mobile phones, especially Tecno products, tagged Original, No Copy. The campaign train moved around Ikeja, the computer village and its environs.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Attama Fabian said that the campaign is geared towards educating the telephone dealers and users against purchase or sale of fake Tecno and other GSM phones.
“It will be a continuous process until we get rid of those selling fake phones among us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Barrister Uhuegbu said that apart from the rally, a task force has been put in place to monitor the activities of mobile phone sellers and others within and outside the market.
