Lagos Lawmaker Dies

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rotimi Shotomiwa is dead.

He died in the early hours of today after a brief illness.

The lawmaker was representing Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of  Assembly.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Shotomiwa recently marked his 50th birthday. He was the  chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties.

His colleagues and staff of the Assembly are already mourning him.

Spokesperson of the House, Ipoola Omisore confirmed the death of the lawmaker,  saying that his demise came as a shock to him and other members of the house.

The lawmaker’s death occurred barely two weeks after another lawmaker, Korede Kolapo  lost his wife.

The Majority Leader of the House, Taiwo Kolawole, described the incident as  unfortunate and shocking.

“I am short of words to describe the blow. We lost him and it is unfortunate,”  Kolawole said.

Another member, Wahab Alawiye-King said: “It was a sad incident,” describing the  late Shotomiwa as a loveable and likeable person.

Alawiye-King who said he was on his way to the deceased’s house said he was  completely devastated that he lost a close friend.

“We belong to the same committee. We are neighbours in the House of Assembly. He  never had any problem with anybody. I have lost a dear friend,” he said.

Sanai Agunbiade said it was unfortunate that Shotomiwa took ill on 23 October which  was supposed to be his birthday. After the arrangement for his birthday, he was  rushed to a private hospital where his life could not be saved.

“I am so sad that a benefactor is gone. A grassrooter is gone. He was a jolly good  fellow who distributed what he had to members of his constituency,” Agunbiade said,  praying that God should grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
