The clarion call was made by the president of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari.

Falcons won yesterday’s opening match 5-0 against Mali and the NFF president believes another convincing victory over South Africa on Thursday would give the team the necessary confidence and motivation to go on and win the rest of their matches as they battle to regain the trophy they surrendered to Equatorial Guinea in 2008.

He said as they take on their opponents, they must not take anything for granted like the case of the Super Eagles; Falcons are also given an extra attention by their opponents at any given time.

Maigari said the loss in Equatorial Guinea came as a result of so many reasons which did not favour the Super Falcons, adding that the championship was not organised on a level playing ground.

He, therefore, assured the players that  the whole country is behind them and they must not fail to come home with the trophy.

Maigari pledged the commitment of his Executive Committee to ensure that the players are given all the necessary encouragement they need to achieve good results in South Africa.

He said: “I want to charge the Falcons to prove that they are still the best female national team on the continent. They must not take anything for granted. A good result will give them the boost they need to conquer the continent again.

“I want the ladies to know that Nigerians are fully behind them and they cannot afford to disappoint their teeming fans. Nigerians have always demonstrated deep interest in the performances of the female national teams and the only way to reciprocate their gesture is to keep winning.

“NFF will continue to give an unflinching support to the team. We have done our best to get the girls ready for the battle in South Africa.”

Maigari also expressed confidence that Falcons will re-enact their performance of 2000, when they beat the host South Africa in the final to lift the trophy for the fourth time.

“The team have always done well in South Africa and this time will not be different. I have no iota of doubt that Nigerians in South Africa will come out in their numbers to cheer the Falcons to victory”.

Super Falcons are in Group A of the 2010 Africa Women Championship with host South Africa, Mali and Tanzania.
