The President of Boki Local Government Union in Lagos, Prince Julius Olom, has described the killings and savagery resulting from the communal clashes between the people of Boje and Nsadop in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State as “unacceptable, despicable and unwarranted.”

In a statement issued in Lagos at the weekend, Prince Olom said that the incident had drawn back the hands of the clock in the people’s effort towards self actualisation and likened the clashes to “the belligerent and primitive tendencies of the medieval communities where the Barbarian and the Vandals sacked and occupied communities at will.”

He wondered what motivated the people of Boje to embark on such wanton destruction  of lives and property in the once serene community of Nsadop.

“Notwithstanding the level of disagreement between the two communities, nothing should have led to the carnage and homicide that occurred in Nsadop,” Olom said, demanding that “the perpetrators of the massacre in Nsadop should be arrested and tried for crimes against humanity.”

Olom added that the people of Boki must unite and fight against all forces of division and live as one. “We cannot continue to live in the past when other communities are developing into strong economic blocs, attracting positive attention from both state and the federal governments. Why must we continue to create refugees among ourselves instead of thinking on how to educate our children, build schools, hospitals, good roads and all the good things of life? Why,” he asked.

He challenged the political elite and traditional rulers back home to move fast in stemming the scourge of hatred and bitterness among Boki communities through an “An All Comers Congress”of the Boki nation.

“We must re-examine ourselves and undertake a very critical assessment of our leaders, their contributions to the overall development of the Boki Nation then chart a new course for the rest of the people. It is time we told ourselves the plain truth. We are no longer in the 16th century. Boki must move forward,” he concluded.
