Nigerian politicians have been advised to shun politics of do or die, rather, they should embrace politics without bitterness.
Oba Joseph Akinlobu Odumeru, the Agbowa of Agbowa-Ikosi, Lagos State, Nigeria gave the advice at the 2010 Executive Course Commission of Global Mission Chaplaincy Corps Incorporated held in Ikorodu.
Oba Odumeru urged political office holders to see their appointment as a call to serve the people rather than to be served.
“Public office holders should endeavour to serve the electorate as representatives of their various constituencies. They should think of how to better the life of people that voted them into office and not to think of how to loot the treasury or enrich themselves.
”They should also try to make life meaningful to Nigerians such as building roads, schools, hospitals and revamping decayed infrastructure, in general.
“They should shun all forms of do or die politics and embrace politics without bitterness. Those who did not win in an election should go back to the drawing board while those who triumph should come up with projects that will improve their constituencies.â€
Dr. Elijah Bala-Langtang, the Commandant General of the corps described the corps as an affiliate of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, UNESCO, created to ensure that peace reigns all over the world and to attend to all forms of crises.
Bala-Langtang called on the Federal Government to partner with the corps, especially in the coming elections, because the corps has ideas that could be beneficial to the nation in making the 2011 elections free and fair.
He also called on politicians to desist from any act capable of disintegrating the country.
