Nigerian Sabath Omotayo Ibrahim has admitted that foreign players who took part at the just concluded 10th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship are better than the local players..

Sabath told P.M. Sports said it is not good to compare the Nigerian players with the foreign stars, who she said have enough exposure to make them play well in the ITF approved tourney.

To Ibrahim, “the foreign players have gone far in the game of tennis, it has always been hard for us to meet up with their standard in the Governor’s Cup over the years. It’s unfair then to crucify us because of our performance. Some of us are in this championship to garner experience to move on. I think our performance was not too bad in the championship”.

Asked what went wrong when she and Fatimah Abinun lost their semi final of the women’s doubles to the pair of Agnes Szatmari and Nina Bratchikova 0-6,0-6, Ibrahim said their opponents were too much for them to handle.

She admitted that Abinu and her could not withstand the fire power of their opponents, but she has no regret for her poor display.

“We were not at our best today (last Thursday). We were confident before the match, but our opponents were more composed and better than us. So there is no way we can win the match,” said Ibrahim, who is planning to take part in the forthcoming Aba National Open Championship in Abia State.
