The people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, South West  Nigeria, have appealed to the state government and the council authority to  rehabilitate some roads in the area, which they say are in terrible shape.

Notable among the roads is Otto Woft Road, which links the community to Apapa-Mile 2  Expressway.

Some of the those who spoke with Lagos Bulletin said the road has been in such state  for more than one year and nothing has been done about it.

As a result of this, motorists have abandoned the road while commuter bus operators  take its bad shape advantage to exploit commuters.

It was also gathered that policemen in the area have turned the spot to catchment  area where motorists, commercial vehicle drivers and motorcyclists are extorted.

The residents also called on the state government to complete the abandoned work of  the road on Rotimi Crescent.

Chief Rotimi O. Lasekan, the Onikoyi of Apapa, who spoke on behalf of the residents,  said he personally spoke with the council chairman, Kamal Bayewu, over the  uncompleted work and he promised to come to do something about it but up till now,  nothing has been done.

He described the road as one of the major roads which he said, would solve traffic  problem usually encountered in the area if government could construct it and  drainage channels.

He lamented that most times, school children get drowned in the flood resulting from  the bad road, while most of the houses are almost submerged.

He therefore appealed to the state government to come to save school children from  being swept away by flood by constructing the road urgently.

When Lagos Bulletin visited the council, the chairman was said to have gone out on  official assignment.
