Rotary Club of Omole-Golden has carried out two out of its cardinal humanitarian projects outlined for the 2010-2011 Rotary year.

One of the projects is a high capacity borehole sited in Ojodu Community to address the acute shortage of potable water for the community.

The project is located in front of the palace of the Baale of Ojodu on Bashiru Street.

Also, the first set of beneficiaries were handed a cheque to the tune of N50,000 as the Micro Credit Scheme of the organization was flagged off in demonstration of its commitment to continually provide monetary and manpower support geared towards reducing poverty level among residents within and around the club’s immediate environment.

In his address at the commissioning ceremony which coincided with the official visit of the District Governor to the club, the President, Rtn. Lekan Awogbemila said Omole-Golden is poised to register its presence much more in the community as an organization of business and professional persons who are united to identify and address the needs of the ordinary people.

To achieve this, Awogbemila noted that “no other means would be as effective as embarking on rapid implementation of programmes and projects lacking in the society” which, according to him, “will invariably endear Rotary to the hearts of the people and ultimately promote the ideals of the organization.”

Speaking on the water project, Rotn. Awogbemla said the club was successful in implementing the project due to the cooperation it received from the paramount ruler and his chiefs who provided the land where the borehole was sited. As a result, he noted that the club is confident that water will not cease to run from the taps, given the interest shown by the beneficiaries to keep collaborating on sustaining it.

On the micro credit scheme, he said that 10 persons absorbed for the first phase of the programme include some men and women who run small scale cassava processing business in Iju area, a block manufacturer, a tailor and some petty traders. The scheme is being managed by Royal Trust Micro Finance Bank.
