The governor will lead members of the Lagos State Executive Council to the closing ceremony, which will also be attended by top management staff of the main sponsors, Etisalat and First City Monument Bank, FCMB, and co sponsors, Julius Berger and LASACO amongst others.
Prince Oladunjoye, the Special Adviser on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Fashola, also revealed that scores of school children across Lagos State have indicated their willingness to be part of the closing ceremony.
According to him, the children will be around to watch exciting tennis actions from the finalists, adding that this will stimulate their interest in the game. He noted that tennis is best played at a tender age.
Other side attraction of the closing ceremony is the raffle draws sponsored by Etisalat to reward the fans who would be at the finals. Etisalat will be rewarding winners of the raffle draws with double sim phones and blackberry phones as gifts.
This year’s Governor’s Cup witnessed exciting tennis actions from emerging world stars, who converged on Lagos to showcase their God-given talent in tennis.
The first leg trophy was won by Amir Weintraub of Isreal. Weintraub left no one in doubt of his aim to win the Futures 1 title with his superb strokes from the first round of the Main Draws to the final. T
The tournament’s number 3 seed defeated Karan Rastogi from India 6-2,6-4,7-5. Weintraub, however, failed to weather the storm in the second leg.
He was bundled out in the first round match by Nigerian teenager, Clifford Enosoregbe.
The Futures 1 Women’s Singles title went to Slovak tennis sensation, Zuzana Kucova.
She was too hot for her French opponent, Natalie Piquion, who fell in straight sets of 6-2, 6-0. Kucova is now fighting her way to the final of the second leg, as she did last year when she carted home the trophies of both the Futures 1 and 2 with the prize money.
