No fewer than 130 widows and less privileged in Lagos State were recently empowered with grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dryers and food stuff at the Economic Empowerment Programme for Widows and Less Privileged in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of the state.
In his speech during the occasion, Mr. Taiwo Adenekan, chairman of the council, said the programme was to meet the set objective of the administration’s sustainable economic development which was to create wealth and enhance the well being of the people of the area.
He stated that as the welfare of the people in different empowerment programmes are pivotal in the policy thrust of the state government, so also are they pertinent to his administration, adding that such programmes for both skilled and unskilled will continue to receive adequate attention.
Taiwo also stated that over 80 youths from different wards in the council area are undergoing computer training as part of youths empowerment programme of the council and promised to extend such gesture to more youths in the area.
He urged the beneficiaries of the programme not to see it as national cake, rather they should use it to uplift their social status, promising that government will continue to provide for their needs, while also expecting them to perform their civic obligations to the government by paying their taxes and rates.
