The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded the highest revenue figure in the month of September 2010. The Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Maitama Kura gave the figure for the Duty Paid Valued (DPV) as N64,174,626.00
According to Maitama, the command made 55 seizures in September and about 25 seizures within the first three weeks of October 2010. The increase in the rate of seizures, he said, has led to a drastic reduction in the rate of smuggling in the area command due to its zero tolerance for smuggling.
The command was given a revenue target of N6 billion for the year 2010 and as at 30 September 2010, it has collected a cumulative sum of N4.4 billion. The amount collected in September 2009 when compared with the corresponding period last year showed an increase of about 30.56 per cent,” the comptroller said.
However, the command recorded a revenue loss of N27.7 million at the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation due to the accession to the scheme. As at 19 October, 484 trucks loaded with imported goods were seized under the scheme.
The command also treated 203 trucks of exportable goods with a value of N424Â million. The common export through the command are bathroom slippers, plastics etc.
