A non governmental organisation, the United Middle Belt Youth Congress (UMBC) has called for the setting up of the Middle Belt Farming Development Commission.

Making this call when members of the group paid a courtesy to P.M.NEWS, the President General of the group, Barrister Abuka Onalo Oma-baba explained that the setting up of the commission ”is imperative to address the under development in the region.”

Barrister Onalo Oma-baba disclosed that just like the Niger Delta which was neglected by previous administrations in the country, in terms of development, the middle belt also suffered abject neglect and there is need to redress the problem.

“The answer to the development of the Middle Belt lies in the setting up of the Middle Belt Farming Commission. Middle Belt is famous for farming. That is what we are known for. We are now calling on the government to set up a commission to address the development of the region,” Barrister Onalo Oma-baba stated.

The lawyer, who is also an activist, said the organisation was formed to address the under development of the region and build a strong and united region in the Nigerian federation.

Onalo Oma-baba also called for the practise of true federalism in the country to address the marginalisation of minority groups.

According to him, it is only when regions are allowed to control and exploit their God-given resources that there can be peace and development in the country.
