The persistent traffic gridlock at the Cele axis of Oshodi/Mile 2 Expressway, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, could become a thing of the past if a befitting motor park and bus shelter could be provided, thereby stopping commuter vehicles picking and dropping passengers on the highway.

This was the submission of some motorists, commuter drivers and residents of the area while having a chat with Lagos Bulletin on how to find a lasting solution to perennial traffic gridlock that usually occurs around the axis.

Some of those interviewed said non-availability of motor park and bus shelter is responsible for commuter vehicle drivers plying the route dropping and picking passengers on the expressway.

They said that the problem could only be solved if the facilities are provided with effective enforcement on the part of law enforcement agencies.

Some blamed officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and policemen controlling traffic in the area for the terrible traffic situation as they are accused of compromise, alleging that they often abandon their job for extortion and giving the drivers the effrontery to drop and pick passengers unchecked.

Mr. Taiwo Badejo, a commuter, absolved the drivers of any blame for the traffic situation in the area, hinging the problem on government for failure to provide conducive avenue for them to ply their trade.

According to him, “there is no motor park for them to pick and drop the passengers and that is why you see them stopping on the road.

“Even the policemen and the LASTMA officials here are not helping the matter as they allow the drivers to park at any available space after collecting bribe from them.
