Residents of Alafia Estate, Oke-Ira, Aguda, Ogba, in Ojodu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have appealed to the local government Chairman, Mr. Abiodun Faleke, to consider the estate in his administration’s development drive.

Making the appeal was the chairman of Alafia Estate Landlord/Residents Association, Dr. Kayode Kuti, at one of the association’s monthly meeting recently.

According to him, the estate was yet to enjoy the presence of the local government, urging the council chairman to extend the dividends of democracy to the residents because they can see the infrastructure development in neighbouring communities.

A resident of the estate, Mr. Debo Oladipupo, said since the carving out of Ojodu development area from Ikeja Local Government, the estate has not benefited anything from the government.

“It is the Landlords/Residents Association that has always fixed things. We need the local government to complement our effort and hope to enjoy the dividends of democracy. It is time something is done about our plight,” he said.

He added that the government once attempted to assist the estate with the construction of a drainage system, but the project was abandoned.

“An attempt by the local government to construct a drainage at Orimoloye ended in futility because it was abandoned two years ago and since then, nothing has been done,” he lamented.

Dr. Kuti, however, believes that if Mr. Faleke would come to their aid now by fulfilling his promises to deliver the dividends of democracy and it will be a plus to his ambition for the House of Representatives during the forthcoming general elections.

Kuti also appealed to the council boss to help the residents of the estate in completing the abandoned drainage to prevent flood which is already threatening some of the streets in the estate. He also called for road construction as well, especially on Orimoloye, Atunda Olu, Church and Anipupo streets, among others, adding that the residents will continue to assist the government in every way for it to succeed.
