Movement for the Emancipation of Nigerian Students, MENS, has called on Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State to resolve the crisis facing the education sector in the state.
The students made the call through their National Coordinator, Comrade Tope Idowu.
”It is unfortunate that the state government is not serious and committed to the development of education which is the bedrock of any developed state,” Idowu stated.
He condemned the mass sack of 962 lecturers and non-teaching staff of the Olabisi Onabanjo University who were fighting for adequate funding of the institution.
The student leader also condemned the management of the school for increasing the school fees, stressing that the increment will generate crisis in the varsity.
He called for the immediate re-instatement of the sacked lecturers and adequate funding of the institution.
The student leader appealed to the authorities to rescind the decision to increase the tuition fees and also dissolve the governing council of the institution for its inability to manage the crisis.
He warned of a showdown with the authorities if they fail to meet the demands of the students within 21 days.
