Adegboyega Adepitan, President, Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAN), on Thursday said that Lagos State Government has acquired 100 additional refuse removal trucks.

Adepitan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the new trucks, to be delivered in Dec., would be leased to AWAN members to enhance waste removal services in Lagos metropolis.

“For easy evacuation of refuse from collection points, government will soon take delivery of additional trucks to be given to waste managers on lease.

“The new fleet of trucks would complement services of about 400 rickety ones currently being used in different parts of the metropolis,’’ he said.

He said that waste removals were facing problems of access to some streets and technological repairs and maintenance of the trucks.

Adepitan said government would gradually replace and increase the number of the trucks to meet with its mega-city project.

“We are gradually developing the technological system of repairing and maintenance of our trucks for efficient service delivery,’’ he said.

The AWAN boss cautioned residents against dumping of refuse in unauthorized places and urged prompt payment of refuse collection charges.

He advised residents to always put their generated refuse in containers for easy collection and disposal.
