Alhaja Olajumoke Durosinmi, the Chairperson, Ojo Local Government, has called on all stakeholders to engage youths in sporting activities as a means of curbing vices in Nigeria.
She stated this at the first Chairperson’s Female Football Competition held last Sunday at St. Michael Primary School playground, Alawore Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria.
She said: “I am calling on individuals and corporate organisations to sponsor sports competitions like the one we are witnessing today. When youths are actively engaged in sports, they will not have time for social vices.
“With this competition, we are encouraging female football at the grassroots level. My desire is that the competition should continue even when my husband leaves office. I believe that football is no more a mere exercise, it is now a profession.  We will ensure that this female football competition becomes a regular event.â€
Mr. Olumide Travih, who represented Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, Lagos State Commissioner for Sports, at the event, said: “It is a welcome development to have this kind of grassroots competition. It is the policy of the ministry to engage and empower the youths for future development.
“As a representative of the commissioner, I will do my report and get back to him.
“Part of our work is to monitor the competition. This is what we do for every grassroots competition. We will encourage those that are good in the game to represent the state at the National Sport Festival.â€
