The Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, Mr. Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon, has called on the political class to always focus on politics of issues and ideas.
Sulaimon, who is eyeing a seat in the House of Representatives in the forthcoming elections, lamented that 50 years after independence, Nigeria is yet to make any impact in terms of physical and structural development.
The astute grassroots politician regretted that despite the combination of military and democratic leadership of 50 years, the country is yet to overcome abject poverty which is its major hurdle.
The only parameter to address poverty in the country, Sulaimon noted, is through unhindered access to effective and affordable shelter, food, good and healthy environment as well as equal job opportunities and security of lives and property.
He condemned the recent bomb blasts in Abuja, during the country’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations and urged security agencies to investigate and appropriately sanction the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent in future.
On his future political ambition, the council boss who is fondly called Oris by his teeming supporters, assured the people of better and effective representation at the National Assembly if given the mandate.
“My record as a council chairman is there for everybody to see and judge. I promise to even do more if I am given the chance,†he enthused.
