Sports Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Bio will grace the 6th Dr. EIP Ebosie Memorial Swimming Championship, which will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos between tomorrow and Friday.
Captain Sam Phil-Ebosie, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ebosie Foundation, said “the minister has been invited to grace the occasion where he will see the potentials the country has in swimming.â€
Phil-Ebosie argued that Team Nigeria, despite the good outing at the just concluded Commonwealth Games in India, would have placed a more-respectable position at the quadrennial event if swimming had been developed over the years.
He opined that Nigeria has what it takes to contest favourably with top swimming nations like Australia, USA and China.
“Nigeria has what it takes to be a force in swimming in the world, but we have to commit resources to develop the sport,†Phil-Ebosie said.
The two-day event, which is the biggest developmental tournament in the calendar of the Nigeria Swimming Federation, will see no fewer than 80 schools drawn from 24 states across the country jostling for honours.
