The Chairman, Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr. Ayodeji Joseph, has urged residents of the area to desist from littering the environment. He also appealed to them to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse as a way of checking flooding, reducing traffic congestion and maintaining a healthy and productive life for them.
In a statement, the council boss said his administration had invested much in the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainages, adding that these intervention measures helped in reducing flooding in the area.
According to him, “residents should avoid littering their surroundings. They should keep the environment clean. We have done over 30 roads including drainages. We are not going to stop at that and that is why there is great reduction in traffic congestion and flooding in Apapa.
“In some other areas, people suffered terribly because of flood but because of the intervention programme of the government, we did not experience major flooding as was the case previously.â€
He also said good roads had reduced traffic congestion in the area. According to him, traffic and flooding were the major problems in the area but which have received great attention.
The council boss also said that his administration had invested much in upgrading of infrastructure in schools and provision of basic social amenities.
He added that the council was receiving support from some individuals and organisations that had been investing in the upgrade of infrastructure in the schools.
