An appeal has gone to the Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to set up a  high-powered panel of enquiry into the ownership, sales and acquisition of 136 acres  of land in Agbara, Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of the state, to avert  hostilities in the area.

High Chief Waheed Bolarinwa Fashina, the traditional ruler of Odan Agbara community,  made this plea while speaking with newsmen in Agbara recently.

He said the call became imperative in view of series of illegal sale of part of the  community’s land by another family and a corporate body, which had forcefully and  unlawfully encroached on their land, using security operatives to threaten them.

The traditional ruler added that they brought in bulldozers to destroy the kolanut  farm and other food crops on the vast expanse of land.

Fashina stated further that Odan Agbara family, the founder and the first settlers  on the land did not sell its land to anybody. “We are still the bonafide custodian  of the land,” he said.

His words: “Trouble started in 1975 and 1992 when representatives of the corporate  body encroached on the land and brought in bulldozers to clear the vast expanse. But  they were resisted by the community leaders and youth of Odan Agbara who blocked all  roads leading to the land, and thus prevented them from taking over the land.”

“Letters were sent to the Divisional Police Officer at Agbara Police Division, the  present Alagbara of Agbaraland, Oba Abadebo Aina Agunbiekun and the chairman of  Ado-Odo Otta Local Government to stop the corporate body and their collaborators.  But their intervention did not yield a positive result,” he added.

“Currently, we have the right to defend our land as we are heading for court again.  We implore the state governor to use his good office to investigate the matter  before it degenerates into chaos and commotion,” Fashina said.
