Owoseni told journalists in Lagos that he is optimistic that Nigerian players will not only perform well but stand the chance of emerging the champions at the end of the two-week tourney.
“We purposely camped our players in Rivers, Kaduna and Ekiti States so that they can have a good outing in the championship and I am impressed with the performance of the players in the camp. I will not be surprised if Nigerian player win the tournament,†he said
Owoseni explained that Governor’s Cup has become a big tourney that attracts players all over the world. He believes that Nigerian players can win the championship if there is adequate preparation and support from NTF.
“I have been watching Governor’s Cup over the years and no Nigerian tennis player has reached the final. I think this is the time Nigerian players should brace up for the challenges ahead,†said Owoseni, who disclosed that NTF has appointed American coaches to guide Nigerian players in the championship.
He, however, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its effort to ensure the competition is sustained in the last ten years.
