The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has described as a huge joke the announcement on Wednesday by a group known as Coalition of Lagos Opposition Political Parties, COLASOP, that it will wrest power from Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in the 2011 governorship election.

ACN Publicity Secretary in Lagos State, South West Nigeria, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said in a statement this morning that those behind the group are ‘hidden politicians’ with no political relevance in the state, adding that they are out to seek the attention and patronage of Governor Fashola.

Igbokwe said: “ACN Lagos is not aware that there is any serious opposition in Lagos strong enough to stand on its feet to challenge a very successful and sophisticated Fashola-led government in Lagos.

“With every sense of responsibility and without sounding immodest, ACN Lagos does not believe that any true opposition party in Lagos will want to field candidate in 2011 judging from the monumental achievement and landmark development Governor Fashola has recorded in Lagos.

“The man has clearly shown the way forward for the 35 governors in Nigeria and even for the Presidency.”
