Bolaji Rosiji, monk and former President, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and thousands of devotees of the Hare Krishna movement in the world, especially in Nigeria, are celebrating Janmastami, an ancient festival that commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna on earth.

The festivity is marked by singing, dancing and feasting because Janmastami is considered the biggest festival of the ‘Vaishnavas,’ the group dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna, the way Christmas and Muslims are to the Christianity and Islamic religions.

According to Rosiji, Head, Krishna Movement in Nigeria, “the worship of Krishna, that is, the Vaishnavas religion, while its roots in ancient India and its scriptural foundation can be traced to the Vedas which are considered to be the oldest scriptures known to man. The Vedas are considered not only to be the source of Vaishnavas, but what is loosely referred to today as Hinduism, an amalgam of many beliefs directed at a pantheon of gods.”

Rosiji explained that by the teachings of the Vedas, Krishna is not just one of a pantheon of Hindu gods, but the primeval lord of lords, greater than any man or god and he is the original personality of godhead, adding, “the Vedas law states that as the supreme, he is the cause of all causes, fully independent and transcendental despite his personality.”
