The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has dispelled the notion that the coalition of  Lagos State Opposition Political Parties, COLASOPP, will wrest power from the ruling  ACN in the state.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of ACN, Chief Funsho  Ologunde, said that their wish is a figment of the imagination of the convener.

He said that the ACN is deeply rooted in the state such that it cannot be  intimidated by any mushroom political party.

“The ACN will not be intimidated by any group or any mushroom political party. We  are quite aware that the strength of democracy is partly determined by the content  of oppositions, therefore, we welcome them.

“Every Lagosian knows that there are two political parties in Lagos State: the ACN  and all the others put together. I can assure Lagosians that their threat is just a  storm in the tea cup. A flash that really does not have any root,” he said.

He said that winning elections goes beyond boasting on the pages of newspapers,  television or the radio stations, adding that the ACN is definitely head and  shoulders ahead of the said COLASOPP if at all it ever exists.

“Where are the members that they are going to say they can boast of to win election?  Their threat is a mere figment of the imagination of the said Dr. Dominic Adegbola.  If he wants to contest an election, he is free to do so but to boast that they will  come together and dislodge ACN from  Lagos State is a huge joke; a threat that will  not rattle anybody in the ACN,” he averred.

Ologunde said further that even if 100 opposition parties merge, they will not match  the strength of the ACN in the state.

“We are sure and proud of the achievement of the incumbent governor of Lagos State,  Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola. We even get more assured when the major opposition  parties in Lagos say they are very positive about him and his achievement in the  state.

“It was even on record that they had, at one time or the other, teased him that they  will make him their flag bearer if he fails to pick the governorship ticket of ACN.  Then where is the strength of the opposition if the major opposition says that he  wants Fashola at all costs?”
