Estate Agent Docked

A Lagos-based estate agent, Babatunde Dabiri, 56, has been docked for fraud at an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Supol Eyo Owai, said the accused obtained N120,000 from a complainant, Oluwatosin Oni, on Oshokoya Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos under the pretence of renting her a shop which he knew to be false.

The police said the offences are punishable under Sections 419, 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Volume 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused also faced another two-count charge of stealing after collecting N122,000 from another complainant, Oshifejo Dorcas, without providing her accommodation or returning the money.

When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the trial magistrate, Mrs. Folarin Williams admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000.

The case has been adjourned till 3 November, 2010 for mention.
