Man Dupes 42 Tenants Of N19m

Police Detectives attached to the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria have arrested a 40-year-old man who conspired with two others, now at large, to swindle 42 prospective tenants of the sum of N19.082million.

One of the suspects Atobije Saka Adebiyi has been arrested, while police are still on the trail of Kayode Saka and Kolawole Balogun.

According to the Commissioner of Police in charge of SFU, CP Moses Ndagi Saba, “following complaints received by the unit from some of the victims, my men swung into action and one of the suspects, Adebiyi who claimed to be the legal owner of the property situated at No.45, Gilbert Odion Street, Thomas Estate Ajah, Lagos, indicated that he sublet the property for 10 year to the second suspect, Kayode Saka, a property developer.

“At that point some of the victims forcefully moved into the building, only for the first suspect, Adebiyi, to now re-appear and claim the building, using all possible means to eject them.”

The Commissioner of Police advised members of the public to make proper enquiries before parting with their hard-earned money in order to avoid falling victim of fraudsters in their quest to secure accommodation.

The arrested suspect has been arraigned on a one-count charge of conspiracy at Magistrate Court 6, Lagos and is presently on remand pending fulfilment of his bail condition. Detectives are still on the trail of the fleeing suspects.
