The Chairman of the PDP in Yobe, Alhaji Abbagana Tata, says four aspirants have so far purchased forms to contest the gubernatorial election in the state in 2011.
“Four aspirants have so far bought the forms and brought to our notice at the state secretariat their intention to vie for the party’s governorship ticket,†Tata told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Sunday.
He named the four aspirants as Alhaji Adamu Waziri, the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Usman Albishir, Alhaji Garba Umar and Alhaji Yakubu Bello.
He said that five senatorial aspirants had also obtained forms, adding that more were expected to purchase forms before the deadline for the sale of nomination forms.
“Many others have obtained the forms at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja while some have indicated interest to obtain theirs before the closure,†he said.
Tata said the PDP had recorded more aspirants wishing to obtain nomination forms than the ruling ANPP in the state where the incumbent Governor is the only candidate.
“You can see the vibrancy in the PDP is more than in the ANPP, this explains the commitment of the people for change in the state in 2011.
“The PDP has recorded more aspirants for the governorship, state and national assemblies than any other party in the state. We are optimistic of change in 2011,†he stated.
He assured that the leadership of the party would provide “a fair, just and level playing ground†for all aspirants, adding that the most popular aspirant would emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
