A commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada rider, Mohammed Saliu has been arrested by the police at Adeniji Adele Police Division, Lagos Island, Lagos for allegedly attacking and brutalising an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr. Yusuf Akeem who sustained a deep cut on his face.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the LASTMA official was attacked while trying to enforce the Lagos State government restriction order banning motorcycles from plying the Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The incident occurred at the Nigerian Law School junction, Victoria Island, Lagos on Tuesday.
The victim according to eyewitnesses was rescued by motorists and road users and his colleagues who rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment to stop the profuse bleeding of his head.
According to a witness, Timothy Edoaye, also a motorcyclist “the behaviour of my colleague was very bad.
“The Okada man, on sighting the police and the LASTMA official at the Law School junction rode his motorcycle recklessly to evade arrest and in the process fell down with the passenger he was carrying. I was surprised, the next thing he did was to grab an iron rod and started hitting the official until blood started gushing out of his mouth.”
.The LASTMA official is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while the suspect has been detained at the Adeniji Adele police station. He will be prosecuted,after police investigation, PM NEWS has learnt.
