Ghana would play Nigeria in an International Polo match at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday, 2 October.
Mr Michael Mahama, captain of the Accra Polo Club, who disclosed this to GNA Sports in Accra on Monday, said the competition formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence.
Mahama said the competition, which is an annual event, will be sponsored by PHC Motors Limited and Trassaco Limited. He said some of the players expected to feature for Ghana include Jamil Ibrahim, Sulemana Iddrisu, Eric Gene and Harold Awuah Darko.
The junior teams of both sides would play a curtain raiser match before the main event.
Mr Mahama called on the Ghanaian sporting public to rally around the team to enable them beat their Nigerian counterparts. Last year Nigeria won the competition’s trophy but he promised that they would win this year.
He, however, called on corporate bodies to help develop the sport in the continent.
