Due to the difficulty encountered while trying to cross the ever-busy Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, residents of the area have called on Lagos State government to provide footbridges along the road to save them from being killed or maimed while trying to cross the road.
The residents, in a chat with Lagos Bulletin, said that there is no day that one or two people are not knocked down by high speeding vehicles, whose drivers, according to them, seem not to have any consideration for pedestrians crossing the road.
They also decried government’s insensitivity towards the plight of the people by not providing footbridges in the area.
They therefore called on the Governor Babatunde Fashola-led administration to critically look into the matter and provide footbridges along the road to save the people from untimely death.
Mr. James Ajala, a resident of Ijaiye said crossing to either side of the road any time of the day has been a difficult task as people get knocked down most of the time, while another resident of Meiran, Mrs. Adejoke Adegun, pleaded with government to provide footbridges in the area “if only for the sake of our children.â€
According to her, if the elderly ones can take care of themselves, school children cannot and that is why it is very important and urgent for the state government to do something about the matter.
During a visit to the area, people were seen struggling to beat the high-speeding vehicles when dashing across to the expressway.
