ANCOPSS Backs Fashola's Re-election

Principals in Lagos State, South West, Nigeria have backed Governor Babatunde Fashola for  a second term in office, saying the  governor has done a lot in transforming the  education sector of the state.

The principals, under the aegis of the All Nigeria Confederation of  Principals of  Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Lagos State branch, said the governor  deserved a second term  for spearheading the revival of public secondary schools across the state.

President of ANCOPSS, Mr. Albert Phillips, spoke yesterday when he led  a standing  committee of ANCOPSS to visit the Chairman, Lagos State Technical Vocational Education  Board, LASTVEB, Mrs. Adeyinka Oyemade at the Old Secretariat, Ikeja.

According to Phillips, ANCOPSS, had no choice than to back a governor who had taken  public secondary schools in the state out of the doldrums, adding  that several teachers  had been retrained home and abroad.

He said that the billion naira Lagos State Eko Project, in which the state is partnering  with the World Bank to revamp education in the state was a testimony of the achievements  of Fashola in office as well as building new schools with modern laboratories.

The ANCOPSS president stated that the governor had been able to provide free textbooks to  students and pupils in all public schools in order to raise education in the state to the  next level.

“He has been able to build on his predecessor’s achievements. We are in support of a  second term for him. He has done very well,” he said.

On hooliganism, he said the schools authority was addressing it through education and  enlightenment of the students and letting them know the consequences of their action.

LASTVEB Chairman, Oyemade commended Fashola and the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan  for changing the face of education in Lagos.

Tutor-General, Education District VI, Mrs Foluso Ogunlana added that  technical education  served as a bridge between professors and lecturers in the  university, saying that they  knew how important practical were in building the  lives of students.
