Coming quickly on the heels of the recently held Black Heritage Festival of Arts in Badagry, Lagos, the renaissance of African culture and its social values has received a boost with a band of core Afro-Carribean professionals in the diaspora, coming up with a historic event.
The momentous event tagged Afro-Carribean Arts and Music Awards (ACAMA), is slated to hold later this year in Kingston, Jamaica. According to the General Coordinator of the event, Dr. Toni Williams, it is to appreciate professional Afro-Carribeans in the diaspora for their contributions to the world of arts and music.
“We have carefully selected few individuals from the Afro-Carribean background and want to reward them in their various fields for contributing to the growth of the black race,â€Â Williams explained.
One of the selected and only Nigerian on the prestigious list is the foremost song writer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and music producer, Samuel Irewole Oni.
He is credited with over 1,000 musical productions including several award-winning hit songs and albums like Folake Umosen’s Kings Praise 1 and 2, and Tosin Martins’ Olo mi.
He also produced songs for Bongos Ikwe, Segun Obe, Celebrate, The Jewels (Star Quest 2007 winner), Ara, Onyeka Onwenu, Silver Saddih, Pastor Aity Inyang, Lara George (Ijoba Orun), Lahra Oluba, Tim Dakolo, Keffi, Chrysolite from South Africa, best selling Midnight Crew (Igwe) among others.
