Oyo state governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-akala today at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State declared his intention to fight for a second term in office.
In newspapers advertorials, staunch supporters of Akala declared their support with captions like: First good term deserves a second term, The grand declaration among others.
P.M.NEWS gathered that political heavyweights who have lined up for Governor Akala for second term project include the Chairman, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area and the Oyo State boss of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Mr. Ademola Ojo.
Sources said he had mobilised thousands of Akala loyalists to storm the Lekan Salami Stadium venue of the declaration.
Demola Ojo who is nursing a senatorial ambition has the backing of ALGON Secretary in Oyo State, Barrister Gabriel Ojolowo and Hon. Kamoru Shittu, ALGON’s Public Relations Officer in the state.
However, political observers are of the view that Governor Akala may not have a smooth second term ticket with the stiff opposition from different political camps within the PDP in Oyo State, including those led by Chief Yekini Adeojo and former governor, Rashidi Ladoja.
Akala also had open confrontation with prominent traditional rulers like the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III who alleged that the governor planned to assassinate him, an allegation Akala has denied.
