The Managing Director of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), Makanjuola Alabi, has been sacked.

He was immediately replaced by Mr. Tunji Bello, a former Commissioner for the Environment in the state.

In a terse statement released from the office of the Head of Service, Mr Adesegun Ogunlewe, the appointment of the former Commissioner takes immediate effect. The statement did not state if Alabi would be probed.

It is believed that Alabi’s sack resulted from the petition written by the Majekobaje Eko Integrity Group and sent to the state House of Assembly.

The group, led by Mr. O. O. Olajide, had accused Mr. Alabi of fraud running into billions of naira.

Among the allegations were that he connived with some staff of the company and defrauded the state to the tune of about N2 billion.

The group further alleged that in 2006 during the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the sum of N130 million approved for the agency was released by Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration in 2007 to procure heavy duty equipment like Cranes, HIAB, Hydraulic Man-lift, and Trucks.

The money was allegedly collected but nothing was purchased.

The group further alleged that in 2007 alone, N240 million was siphoned from the agency’s coffers without any job done or contract awarded.

“In 2008 and 2009, N720 million was spent without recourse to due process in line with the fiscal responsibility provisions of the Lagos State Government,” it said.

Alabi was also accused of appointing his wife’s sister and spending millons of naira on her while he allocated most of the sites for outdoor advertising in the state to his company, Altmedia thereby frustrating other practitioners in the outdoor advertising industry out of job

But Alabi had always denied any wrong doing in the matter.

He attributed the allegations to the handiwork of his detractors.
